These Greg Murphy Edition's were Holden's tribute to his outstanding contribution to New Zealand motorsport. Murphy chose many of its special features including high performance AP Racing brakes, more accurate steering rack, orange accents and initials on interior and engine cover. The upholstery was also limited to these models.

The HSV VE R8 with the LS2 V8 engine is a real power horse. The 317 kW (425 hp) power output combined with the 6-speed Tiptronic transmission makes for an exhilarating driving experience. The fact that there were only 51 of these made, and only 10 were Maloo utes, makes it a rare and collectible car indeed.

The Greg Murphy Edition came with a special colour scheme exclusive to the 51 ever made, which was Greg Murphys race number. A significant power increase
