This 1969 Triumph TR5 is a highly collectible example of one of the last cars in the iconic TR5 line. Notably, it is the last TR5 ever built, with its Heritage Certificate confirming its authenticity as Comm. No. CP3101-O, assembled on 19 September 1968 and first registered in New Zealand on 13 January 1969. One of only 2,947 TR5s built, and just 1,161 of those were right-hand drive (RHD), this car stands out as a rare and significant piece of Triumph history.
Key features include:
Engine and Chassis: Matching numbers for the engine, body, and chassis, preserving its originality.
Transmission: A 4-speed gearbox with J-type overdrive ensures a smooth, enjoyable drive. The original A-type overdrive gearbox is also included but not installed.
Exterior: Finished in its original New White color, complemented by wire wheels, the car boasts an interchangeable hardtop and a soft top (Surrey top), offering versatility for different weather conditions.
Original Parts Included: The car comes with its original steel wheels and trim, although they are not currently installed.
Heritage Certificate: Verifies this TR5 as the last TR5 ever produced, making it a truly rare collectible.
Ex-Race Car History: This TR5 has an eventful racing history, having been an active race car from 1983 to 1991. It was fully restored in the early 2000s to ensure it is in excellent condition for both show and driving purposes. The restoration included a reupholstered black vinyl interior, bringing the car back to its original aesthetic while upgrading its mechanical performance.
Upgrades and Modifications:
SS exhaust for enhanced performance and a more aggressive sound.
High-torque starter for reliable starting.
Bosch fuel pump and electronic ignition for improved fuel delivery and ignition reliability.
With its remarkable history, the last TR5 to leave the factory, and its excellent condition post-restoration, this vehicle represents a rare opportunity for collectors of classic British sports cars. Whether you're adding to your collection or seeking an exceptional driving experience, this Triumph TR5 offers both the heritage and performance of a true British classic.
